That girl is poison(ed)

Yummy poisonPhew… I’m back home after spending the day with some friends to escape breathing in poison from the pest control session scheduled by my landlord, thanks to the downstairs neighbor’s flea infestation. All in all, pretty inconvenient, and bad timing with a work deadline looming over me.

I had to prepare by vacuuming the entire apartment (it certainly was in need of that anyway, although I prefer doing it in stages, as needed), doing the dishes, mopping the kitchen floor, cleaning off surfaces and generally tidying up. Other than my room (the only one with an a/c unit), the apartment was oppressivly hot and humid, and giant sweat balls were literally dripping onto the floor as I worked. My roommate, the lucky bastard, left for a fishing trip yesterday so I was on my own.

At around 4 am I finally took a very cold shower and tried to rest. As usual when I have to get up for something in a few hours, I had trouble falling asleep and woke repeatedly until the alarm sounded, so it was effectively like getting no sleep at all.

While I am grateful that my friends were able to give Kerby and I shelter for the day, the temperature and humidity were uncomfortable even inside, and I was too exhausted to do anything but vegitate in front of the TV while they were out running errands. Now that I’m home, eight hours later, I still think I sense a lingering bitter taste in the air, as if there is still some poison floating around. I’m probably imagining it though; we were told it would be safe to return after only six hours, and nothing bad like vomiting or my head swelling up to twice its size has occurred. Still, as a character in the movie Strange Days says, “Paranoia is just reality on a finer scale.”

I think I will go take another cool shower and collapse for a while.
